Ripple Prime adds 24/7 RWA perpetual swaps on 100+ markets via Hyperliquid

Ripple Prime opens RWA perpetual swaps on 100+ markets referencing Trade.xyz futures on Hyperliquid, 24/7, with RLUSD as collateral and Virtu among first users.

Ripple Prime, Ripple's institutional prime brokerage, on October 15 opened real-world-asset perpetual swaps to clients, referencing perpetual futures that Trade.xyz deploys on Hyperliquid. The product covers 100+ reference markets across equities, equity indices, ETFs, metals, energy and foreign exchange, trades 24/7 including weekends, and accepts Ripple's RLUSD stablecoin as collateral where jurisdiction permits. The Block and Cryptoast both carried the announcement.

What is new

  • Instrument: total-return perpetual swap with no expiry, offered by Ripple Prime as principal under its CIV BVI license.
  • Reference venue: Trade.xyz-listed perpetual futures on Hyperliquid, the HIP-3-driven deployer that commands between 95% and 99% of HIP-3 volume (reported in Crypto Briefing earlier in October).
  • Coverage: 100+ markets — single stocks, equity indices, ETFs, gold, silver, oil, major and minor FX pairs.
  • Hours: continuous 24/7, no CME-style weekend gap.
  • Collateral: cross-margined across asset classes; Ripple's RLUSD is explicitly eligible.
  • First users: Virtu Financial is already trading the products. Scotte Moegling, Virtu's head of business development for digital assets, told The Block that "Virtu is ramping up across emerging liquidity pools."

The product sits one layer above Trade.xyz's own perps: a Ripple Prime client takes a swap against Ripple Prime as counterparty, and Ripple Prime hedges on Hyperliquid rather than making the client hold the HIP-3 position itself.

How this fits the Ripple Prime stack

Ripple Prime is the rebrand of Hidden Road, the non-bank prime broker Ripple bought for $1.25 billion in October 2025. Through 2026 the unit has added, in sequence:

  • February 2026 — initial Hyperliquid support, giving clients access to on-chain perp liquidity with margin kept inside Ripple Prime (FXStreet).
  • May 2026 — EDX Markets integration, with RLUSD listed as future collateral.
  • August 27, 2026 — a Delta One desk letting hedge funds trade Apple, the S&P 500 and US Treasuries via total return swaps without owning the underlying.
  • October 15, 2026 — today's RWA-perp swap layer on Trade.xyz / Hyperliquid.

Ripple Prime says more jurisdictions are planned but gives no timeline or named markets. Customer counts, swap volumes and open interest were not disclosed; The Block put trade.xyz's current daily RWA volume at $2.1–$2.6B against a July peak that was ~71% higher, with open interest around $3.6B.

Where this leaves the RWA-perps market

DefiLlama puts open interest in RWA perpetuals above $18.7 billion, up from roughly $161 million in July 2025 per a16z crypto, with Binance and Trade.xyz accounting for close to half. Ripple Prime's launch does two things to that picture:

  1. It brings the first major prime broker into Trade.xyz's HIP-3 orbit as a swap-wrapping counterparty, not a direct taker.
  2. It makes RLUSD usable as collateral for a 24/7, 100-market product — the clearest institutional use for the stablecoin to date.

What to watch

  1. First disclosed volumes. Ripple Prime hasn't published a dollar figure. Whether the pipeline is Virtu-plus-a-few, or a dozen prime clients, is the next signal.
  2. Settlement finality on Hyperliquid. HIP-3 is permissionless and leans on Hyperliquid's shared order book; any contagion event on an unrelated HIP-3 deployer would hit the reference book Ripple Prime is hedging against.
  3. Trade.xyz concentration. If 95–99% of HIP-3 volume remains in one deployer, Ripple Prime's hedging venue is effectively one counterparty. A second major deployer joining HIP-3 is the structural change to watch.
  4. Jurisdictional rollout. The current wrapper is a BVI prime license. US client access, in particular, needs a separate licensing path Ripple hasn't disclosed.

Context

Prime brokers wrapping on-chain perps into off-chain swaps is a familiar pattern from the equities world; the question for crypto has been which stack would get there first. Ripple Prime now joins Falcon X (which added Hyperliquid support earlier in 2026) and FalconX / Hidden Road's earlier Delta One desk in offering RWA-tracked derivatives to institutions without them touching an on-chain venue directly. Combined with Mastercard's Global Money Platform launch the same day, October 15 is one of the clearest signals this year that institutional stablecoin-and-RWA infrastructure is moving from pilots into production.
